Out on the Town – Cirque du Soleil: Varekai

May 4, 2015 by

I am such a huge fan of Cirque du Soleil, as I’m writing this I realized I’ve seen at least 12 of their shows, and a couple even twice. This show that was in town last week, Varekai, is one of my favorite shows. They create their own language for some of their shows and even though I don’t understand what they were trying to say some of my favorite songs are on this soundtrack. So much so that I’m making a funeral playlist for myself and there are a couple that come from this show (morbid I know).

We bought the family tickets to see Varekai as a family Christmas present. Unfortunately one of my sister in law’s couldn’t attend because she had a Drill weekend that she couldn’t get out of. The show was playing at the Spokane Arena. We were worried that the touring company may not be as good as any of the resident Vegas shows, but as I have seen this show before and loved it I wasn’t worried.

I should have been. I was so disappointed in the music, knowing the songs by heart it was sad to hear the changes and the liberties made by the singers. Perhaps the conductors thought since the show has been around for some time now change would be good. I’m glad I’m headed to Vegas here soon, I think I need a show redeemer.
