Guest Room Reveal

Jul 23, 2014 by

It’s been a work in progress but the guest room is finally done! As I mentioned I really wanted the guest area to feel plush and clean like a comfortable hotel. I wanted visitors to feel like they were enjoying a vacation or a little retreat when they came here to ensure that they would want to come and visit again.

We weren’t repainting so I needed to work around the walls and rug. We also already had the duvet so these were all used as a guide to planning. This is the only room that my husband gave me free reign in, usually he has an opinion!

On to the guest room tour!

bed

I’ve always wanted a tufted headboard!

What better way to make your bed plush than with oodles of pillows! Bonne Nuit – means good night in French. There’s three more hiding back there that you can’t see (pillows from Target & Homegoods, Organic cotton throw from Target, lamp from Fred Meyer).

hatrack

I adore this hat rack I found for the closet. There were a few must have’s when I was shopping for this room and I could not stop thinking about the hat rack, it was an immediate love when I saw it in the catalog (from Grandin Road). We didn’t think the closet needed to be built out and the space is not very big so I wanted to keep it open, this concept worked perfectly.

bench

The little bench functions as a suitcase stand with a shoe rack below (from ehome Products via Amazon).

dresser bedskirt

What a find, this dresser came from Target of all places!  The color and detailing in the drawers were so eye catching.

Another must have was the tasseled burlap bed skirt. It’s the perfect neutral and added great texture to the room (from Ballard Designs).

shell tabl

I loved this shell mosaic table so much I wanted to buy two! The colors of the room were brought together so well in this piece and in the artwork above the bed (shell table from Cost Plus World Market).

tapestry

You know you are getting old when you think you are ready for a tapestry. The room wasn’t going to house a TV but I didn’t want a naked wall. This is so subtle that it almost blends into the background. There are hints of gold that just pop out beautifully (from art.com).

artwork

I searched all over for a piece of art to hang over the bed. I didn’t know what I was looking for but I knew what it would be when I found it. From going to stores to searching online for a piece that would work, I found this one hanging at Ashley furniture. Because of some bubbling I was able to get it for 20% off. Score!

curtains

I used the bed skirt as a tie in to the curtains I selected. These were custom blackout curtains from a curtain maker on Etsy. This window is an odd shape but I was so happy with the finished product!

Vases, circle mirror, flame sculpture – all repurposed from our condo, all from homegoods.

chair

The chair actually is a mini recliner, there are 3 settings, but the space doesn’t allow for reclining but one day I’m sure it will serve its purpose, from Overstock.
tray

Gold leaf vanity tray found at the car wash ’boutique’ of all places!  The owl is a trinket from a friend’s trip to Europe.

rug

I loved this rug, it was actually originally meant for my office but after the room was coming together I moved it to the guest room (from Home Depot).

This ended up being one of my favorite rooms in the house so far, pretty cozy!
