Never Ending Eye Issues!

The allergens have been so bad these days that sneezing, sniffles and red eyes are pretty commonplace. I have rubbing my eyes in my sleep excessively. One morning, I woke up with my eye membranes both loose, they looked like contact lenses folded up at the base of my eyes. I panicked and began looking for emergency ophthalmologists and went back to sleep. By the time I woke up a couple of hours later they had corrected themselves and the triage nurse that I was in touch with advised that I didn’t need to come into the office to be seen. What a relief, I thought I was rubbing my eyes blind! Thereafter I began wearing mittens to sleep ensure that I didn’t damage my eyes any further!

On the 4th of July we go another one of those calls from my father in law letting me know that my dog needed to go back to the emergency pet care center. He had a limp and a really swollen eye. We brought him to the clinic and he was diagnosed with conjunctivitis. PINK EYE?! Doggie eye problems are in the top 10 list of dog problems! We needed to put eye drops into the little guy for the last 5 days, that was not an easy task but about day 4 he started getting used to it. It was a challenge to get the little guy to stop rubbing his eye though and making sure that he didn’t rub it with his paw or on the bed.

Then to add to the family list of similar injuries –

Later that evening the husband took the side-by-side up to the lookout to see some fireworks from the lake. He ran into a couple of neighbors and they took a shortcut to another neighbor’s house. Unfortunately he was eating dust from the ATV’s in front of him and got dirt and sand in his eyes by not having any protection of goggles or glasses and further irritated them by rubbing them more! His eyes were red and a mess for days thereafter and wasn’t able to enjoy some planned neighborhood festivities because of his pink eyes. Since then though, he splurged and bought an atv / dirtbike helmet – lesson learned!

I’d say I hope this is the last of the injuries but between my lemon of a pup and this just being the start of our country adventures, I’m sure there will be more to come.
