Trails – Dishman Hills Conservancy

May 13, 2014 by

I registered for a running club. Nature abounds here and I could not think of a better way to learn where the trails are in the area and at the same time get my workouts in – yay for twofers! It’s a group with a goal, which means a training plan with an end. My schedule is too hectic to commit to hobbies long term so this group fits the bill.

Moving to the country, I knew I needed a pair of good trail shoes to get me through the terrain. I’m partial to Brooks Glycerin for pavement running but after much searching found a pair of trail shoes that didn’t feel like I was getting electrocuted with each step due to the pinching rock plate. Too bad they are the ugliest shoes on the planet – it seriously looks like a child melted their crayons from their I-hate-these-colors bucket.  And I never tire of sharing with people how ugly these shoes are, it’s like a train wreck that you just cannot stop staring at. And unfortunately for me Road Runner Sports didn’t carry the lesser offensive blue version. I joke that in the event I get lost just look for the girl wandering around in the ugly shoes. But on the plus side is a Runners World Editor’s Choice shoe. Form over fashion – when did I grow up?

Our first week’s trail run was at the Dishman Hills Conservancy. I should have paid attention to which loop this was, I was more engrossed in how beautiful, clean, not crowded and dog friendly this park is. I’m used to local trails in California that are so crowded you can’t enjoy or even hear your thoughts. I look forward to coming back with, my pup, Bear and visiting their other trails.
